Enzo Maresca drops new Jack Grealish transfer hint after making Man City return - AOL

Enzo Maresca insists that any Manchester City player who deserves minutes will get opportunities after bringing Jack Grealish back into the fold.

The playmaker was the club's record signing up until this summer, but has gradually seen his role decline at the Etihad, so much so that he was loaned out last season to Everton. The Toffees opted against signing him permanently and Grealish has returned to Manchester.

The 30-year-old has started just one Premier League game for City since December 2024 but came on for the second half of their Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

Maresca has replaced Pep Guardiola and is having to run the rule over the squad he's inherited and has been happy to offer hope to the ex-Aston Villa man - who will get minutes if his performances and work rate justify it.

He said: "Jack was inside when we were 2-0 down so the game already became complicated after that, but overall I think Jack was good. The ones that are still here and want to work every day and if they deserve they're going to get minutes. At the moment the transfer window is open and we will see what happens."

City could still see major names leave - and potential arrive - at the club. Barcelona have just agreed a fee of more than £60million for Rodri and the Spaniard, who has entered the final year of his deal, could return home.

Elliot Anderson has already arrived from Nottingham Forest in a club-record deal whilst City are also eyeing up a move for Lille's Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who could head to the Etihad for £85m. Enzo Fernandez is another man on their radar.

Grealish's future could hinge on who stays or goes in the final third. His best City performances have come from the wing and Savinho and Omar Marmoush, two men who can operate in that position, are both being linked with moves away.

Savinho has fallen down the pecking order and is keen on a move to Tottenham, but his fee and wages could prove an issue. Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo have shown themselves to be favourites in the wide roles and Grealish will likely have to usurp them if he wants to become a regular again.
