McCoist beamed after close pal Derek McInnes landed his first win as Rangers boss and he isn't waving the white flag

Excited Ally McCoist has roared 'bring Celtic on' as the Rangers hero reckons hosting their greatest rivals at Ibrox is no nightmare draw.

But the 63-year-old admits if the Premier Sports Cup quarter final was flipped and being played at Celtic Park, he would have a change of heart.

McCoist beamed after close pal Derek McInnes landed his first win as Rangers boss with the 5-1 pasting of St Mirren at Ibrox. That victory teed up a place in the last eight, before the great rivals were drawn against each other.

Celtic have started the season fast having spent £30m in new recruits as Martin O'Neill targets another trophy-laden season and will head to Ibrox on September 12 or 13 before hosting their rivals in the Premiership the following weekend.

Asked by Jeff Stelling if it was a nightmare draw, the club hero instantly clapped back.

McCoist, speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "It's not the tie you least wanted, because the tie you least wanted was Celtic vs Rangers. Aye, bring it on.

"You have to look at it as an opportunity. It's not been a good start, of course it's not. A horrendous couple of injuries to Youssef Chermiti and Tuur Rommens. The level of performance hasn't been good enough. All of a sudden you get a good result and an opportunity to play your biggest rivals, you must go and grab it with both hands."
