Cesar Peixoto admits Wolves with learn from last-gasp draw with Blackburn

Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto admitted "it was a lesson" as they rescued a point with a 2-2 draw against Blackburn at Molineux in the Sky Bet Championship's curtain-raiser.

Returning hero Raul Jimenez scored a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time to equalise after Ryan Alebiosu handled Jackson Tchatchoua's cross.

It looked a controversial decision with right-back Alebiosu appearing outside of the box, something VAR would have pondered had it occurred in the Premier League.

"It was a lesson for us to the future," said Peixoto. "In the first half we were better and created more chances.

"But in the second half we conceded the goal, the team lost some organisation and we played more with our hearts than our heads or brains.

"We have to stay with the mental stability for 90 minutes. When we stay organised we are better."

Peixoto was unconcerned about his side's defending after Wolves failed to deal with crosses into their box for both Blackburn's goals.

"It's normal at this time of the season," he added. "Not everyone is 100 per cent, but it's something we have to work on and improve on.

"It's important to play with heart, to not give up for 90 minutes, but we have to play in our way, with our identity we want to create.

"Sometimes the players lost the organisation and we can't play in that way when we have mental stability for 60 minutes."

Until Jimenez - on his first league appearance for the club since rejoining from Fulham - struck his first Wolves goal in 1,311 days, it looked as though it was going to be a losing start to Peixoto's English league debut.

Marshall Munetsi gave the hosts an 18th-minute lead when he calmly rolled the ball under advancing goalkeeper Balazs Hoth after Fer Lopez's superb pass.

Sean McLoughlin equalised 10 minutes later with a stooping header from Ryoya Morishita's cross.

Blackburn went ahead in the 48th minute through Andri Gudjohnsen after he beat Yerson Mosquera to Oladapo Afolayan's cross.

Jimenez, who paid for scarves for Wolves' most vocal fans in the South Bank - rescued them from the penalty spot, sending Hoth the wrong way.

Blackburn head coach Tony Mowbray admitted he felt the win was in the bag.

"I didn't think they were going to score. They weren't really creating chances and if anything I thought we were going to get a third goal," he said.

"So I'm a little bit disappointed and a bit frustrated. I saw an angle that shows it (penalty decision) was outside the box, but I spoke to a guy who said it was just inside the box.

"I'm not questioning anyone's integrity, but it felt as if a lot of decisions were starting to swing their way a bit.

"It's harsh to take because I'm not sure they deserved their second goal to be honest."
