Dolphins to begin WBPL title defence against First Deep Water

Dolphins Women Basketball Club will begin the defence of their NBBF/Zenith Bank Women Basketball Premier League title against First Deep Water at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on Sunday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The reigning champions won their second title last year following a 61-55 victory over First Bank in the final of the playoffs. They had waited 10 years for their second triumph but will hope to avoid another long wait for a third title as they begin their campaign against one of the oldest sides in the competition.

The opening game of the first phase in the Atlantic Conference will see IGP Queens take on newcomers Victoria Queens, while record winners of the league and last year's runners-up, First Bank, will face Royal Aces.

Also, two-time winners MFM and Bayelsa Blue Whales will take on each other in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Savannah Conference will tip off two days later on Tuesday, August 18, with Air Warriors taking on Kada Angels in the first game of the day.

Other games on the opening day of the Savannah Conference are Nasarawa Amazons against Ham Warriors and Titans against Nigeria Customs, while the day will end with a battle between Aso Sky Queens and Plateau Rocks.

The Atlantic Conference will run until August 22, while the Savannah Conference, taking place at the Basketball Arena, Rayfield, Jos, will end its first phase on Monday, August 24.
