Mitch Austin pays farewell to 'invaluable' Harborough Town chief following managerial announcement

Harborough Town have confirmed that the club's director of football, Gary Setchell, has left the Beehive to take on an exciting new role at Basford United.

Setchell departs the Bees after a successful nine months and he joins Northern Premier League Division One Midlands outfit Basford as their new first-team manager.

Despite only being with Harborough for a short stint, Setchell made a great impact and oversaw a historic season as the Bees won the Southern League Premier Central title.

Now, in what is quite the shift of responsibilities, Setchell arrives in Nottinghamshire for a return to management less than a year after he left his head coach role at Corby Town.

Before his time at Corby, Setchell held managerial roles at Bedford Town, Wisbech Town and King's Lynn Town. Setchell spent an impressive seven years with the latter between 2010 and 2017.

Harborough boss Mitch Austin is disappointed to see Setchell go but fully understands the Basford job was too good to turn down.

Austin said: "We brought Setch into the club last season knowing full well that, if the right managerial opportunity came along, it would be difficult to keep hold of him because he still has so much to give the game.

"His experience and knowledge have been invaluable, and he played an important part in helping us secure the Southern League title and promotion into the National League North.

"I would like to thank him for all of his help over the past few months and wish him all the very best in his new job."

In a farewell to the Bees, Setchell said: "I am extremely grateful to Mitch and everyone at Harborough Town for giving me the opportunity to be part of such a special period in the club's history.

"Although I have only been here for eight or nine months, the people who run the club and everyone involved, from top to bottom, are among the very best I have worked with throughout my time in football.

"There have been some fantastic memories along the way, not least winning the Southern League title and achieving promotion.

"Harborough Town is a proper football club and I am certain it will continue to grow and achieve even greater things in the years ahead."
