Michail Antonio training with Watford and could sign a deal

The Watford Observer understands that Alessio Dionisi is taking a look at Antonio, who is without a club after leaving the Londoners last summer.

The 36-year-old has only fleetingly played - for Al-Sailiya in Qatar - since breaking his leg in a serious car crash in December 2024, but would bring considerable pedigree having scored 68 Premier League goals.

Sporting director Luke Dowling claimed last week that the Hornets need a new centre-forward to support inexperienced duo Luca Kjerrumgaard and Mamadou Doumbia, a need accentuated after Dionisi's side needed 36 shots to score their winner against Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup on Saturday.

Antonio made his EFL breakthrough at Reading before making a name for himself at Sheffield Wednesday between 2012-13, a stint that earned him a move to Nottingham Forest.

After one year in the Midlands, he made a £7m switch to West Ham, for whom he lead the line for the best part of a decade.

He became the first player to score at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when the Spurs were beaten 1-0 by the Hammers in April 2019 and scored all four goals in their 4-0 win at Norwich City in July 2020.

The forward then scored West Ham's first goal in major European competition for over 20 years when he netted against Dinamo Zagreb in September 2021, before scoring seven times on their way to a historic Europa Conference League triumph in 2023.

After his crash, Antonio continued training with the Iron and featured for their Under-21s, before a deal to sign for Premier League side Brentford was scuppered when he tore his calf.

Having regained fitness, a deal at Vicarage Road is now a possibility.
