Germany international with £34 million release clause happy to join Manchester United amid transfer interest: Reports

Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign a left-back this summer. According to Team Talk, one of their top targets is Germany international David Raum.

The Red Devils currently have just one left-back, i.e., Luke Shaw. Tyrell Malacia left the club as a free agent this summer. They have been heavily linked with Lewis Hall. However, Newcastle United are unwilling to part ways with another key player, having already lost the likes of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

Hence, Manchester United could look to move to their other targets. One of the names on their list is David Raum, with whom they have been linked in the past as well. According to the aforementioned report, they had also spoken to his representatives.

The German left-back will be happy to move to Old Trafford this summer and compete with Shaw. His current contract with RB Leipzig has a release clause worth £34 million. However, with it expiring next summer, a deal could potentially be agreed upon for around £30 million.

Raum joined Leipzig from TSG Hoffenheim in 2022. He has since made 143 appearances for them, scoring seven goals and providing 30 assists. Along with him, Manchester United also have the likes of Joaquin Seys, Adrian Truffert, and Jorge Salinas on their list.

Former Manchester United defender urges them to sign Lewis Hall

While Lewis Hall is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford, Newcastle United are unwilling to sell him this summer. His contract with them expires in 2029. Amidst this, former United defender Phil Bardsley has urged his former club to push for the English left-back. He said (h/t Metro):

"Lewis Hall from Newcastle United would be the perfect fit. It's just a question of getting him out of Newcastle United this summer when they've already sold so many players and lost Eddie Howe. He's a Premier League proven player though and a great age. I think the way he plays suits Manchester United to a tee."

Bardsley said that the Red Devils need to sign a midfielder and a left-back. He said that while Luke Shaw has been good, one cannot "always rely on him for a full season." He pointed out that Manchester United are in the UEFA Champions League this season and "with his injury record you always worry."

The Red Devils finished third in the Premier League last season and qualified for the Champions League. They will begin their 2026-27 campaign away against Hull City on August 22.
