Manor Solomon to West Ham: Spurs and Hammers Reach Agreement in Principle

West Ham United have reached an agreement in principle to sign Manor Solomon from Tottenham Hotspur, with The Athletic reporting that a deal is now moving forward after earlier financial obstacles between the clubs.

The proposed package is understood to be worth £5 million up front, with a further £2 million in potential add-ons, while Tottenham would also retain a 10 per cent sell-on clause. Previous discussions had stalled over the structure of those extras, particularly around West Ham's reluctance to meet bonus demands linked to an immediate return to the Premier League.

That impasse now appears to have been resolved, giving West Ham the chance to add a player with proven Championship output and Tottenham the opportunity to conclude a departure that has looked increasingly likely.

Solomon Exit Suits All Parties

Solomon, now 27, has been involved prominently in Tottenham's pre-season preparations, but his competitive impact in north London has been limited. Since arriving on a free transfer in 2023, he has made only six competitive appearances for Spurs. His last outing came as a substitute against Liverpool in September that year before a meniscus injury in his right knee brought his campaign to an early end.

His strongest recent spell came at Leeds United, where he enjoyed a productive loan and contributed 10 Championship goals as the club secured promotion as title winners. That season reinforced the view that, at second-tier level, Solomon can be a genuine attacking asset when fit and settled.

His path since then has been less stable. Crystal Palace explored a move in 2025-26 before Solomon instead went on loan to Villarreal, only to be recalled in January and sent to Fiorentina, where he scored twice in 19 appearances.

West Ham Squad Building Continues

For West Ham, this would represent another notable step in their summer rebuild. Solomon is set to become their second new arrival after Joel Veltman joined on a free transfer, while Keiber Lamadrid's temporary move has already been turned permanent.

There is also a wider backdrop between the clubs. This would be the second deal involving West Ham and Tottenham this summer following Mateus Fernandes' £85 million move in the opposite direction.

West Ham have already opened their competitive campaign with a 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Portsmouth, and attention now turns to the Championship opener away at Burnley on August 16th. If completed swiftly, the Manor Solomon transfer would give them another experienced option for a season in which promotion will be the clear objective.

Our View

From a Spurs perspective, this feels perfectly sensible. Solomon has talent, carries the ball well and can produce in the final third, but sometimes a move simply does not work out. Injuries played a major part, and once momentum disappears at a club like Tottenham, it becomes very difficult to rebuild your position.

An indifferent Spurs fan would probably look at this and shrug more than rage. There is no real sense of losing a central figure here, because Solomon never had the run of games needed to become one. The Leeds spell showed he can still be useful, especially in the Championship, and West Ham may well feel they are getting value if he stays fit.

For Tottenham, the important part is that the deal brings in a fee, keeps future upside through the sell-on clause and clears space in the squad. That is usually the sign of a practical exit rather than a dramatic one.

If Solomon does well at West Ham, most Spurs supporters will probably be pleased for him without spending too much time wondering what might have been. Sometimes that is the cleanest outcome for everyone involved.
