Evann Guessand transfer update as Crystal Palace reignite interest

Evann Guessand could return to Crystal Palace this summer following his short loan spell at Selhurst Park last season. The Europa Conference League winners have reignited their interest in the Aston Villa forward after passing up the chance to sign him earlier this window.

Having signed from OGC Nice last summer, Guessand struggled to find form at Villa, scoring just twice in the first half of last season before joining Palace to rediscover his best level.

The 25-year-old played 14 times for the Eagles, scoring twice and registering one assist, but the threshold to make the move permanent was not triggered, while Palace also passed up their option to sign him.

Now, after Guessand failed to impress during Villa's tour of the Far East, Villa could sanction his departure once again, with Palace keen to bolster their squad ahead of featuring in the Europa League next season.

Pierre Sage, who managed in Ligue 1 for the last three years at Lyon and then Lens, will be well aware of what Guessand can do when he is confident and firing.

Offloading Guessand and Leon Bailey to Hull City would free up space in the budget and squad to add another attacker to Unai Emery's ranks.

Villa are lacking strength in depth, with Alejandro Garnacho, John McGinn, Emi Buendia and Alysson the only real options to feature in the three roles in support of the striker.

After taking on PSG this Wednesday in the UEFA Super Cup, Villa will end their pre-season preparations with a trip to Germany to face Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.
