England striker Ivan Toney charged with assault in London nightclub case

England striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault following an alleged incident at a London nightclub in December 2025. The Al Ahli forward is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 24.

Toney, 30, was charged on July 31 with assault causing actual bodily harm, with the alleged incident taking place on December 6 at a nightclub on Wardour Street in London's Soho district. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charge but did not provide further details about what allegedly happened.

A spokesperson for Toney said the England international was shocked by the development but remains prepared to defend himself when the matter reaches court.

"Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court," the spokesperson said.

Toney will now await his appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court next month, where the legal process surrounding the allegation will begin.

TONEY FACES COURT APPEARANCE

The court date comes at an important point in England's international calendar. Toney is scheduled to appear on September 24, just two days before England host world champions Spain at Wembley in their Nations League group opener.

The striker currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli, having moved to the Middle East after establishing himself as one of Brentford's leading attacking players.

Toney helped Brentford earn promotion to the Premier League from the Championship and went on to score 36 goals in 85 appearances in England's top flight. Before his rise with Brentford, he represented Northampton Town, Newcastle United and Peterborough United.

He has continued to be a productive forward since moving to Saudi Arabia, scoring 42 goals last season for Al Ahli.

WORLD CUP ROLE WAS LIMITED

Toney was also part of England's squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although manager Thomas Tuchel gave him limited opportunities during the tournament.

He entered the semi-final against Argentina as a late substitute, with England chasing an equaliser in their 2-1 defeat. His only start came in the third-place play-off against France, when England produced a remarkable 6-4 victory.

The forward has made 10 appearances for England and has scored once for the national team.

The latest development now leaves Toney facing a court appearance while continuing his football career in Saudi Arabia. The charge is an allegation, and Toney is entitled to defend himself through the legal process.
