SWFC to 'review' ticket pricing structure after fans' criticism for Bantams match

Ticket prices for The Owls' first home league match against Bradford City were announced on Tuesday morning

Sheffield Wednesday will 'review' the pricing structure for future 'Category A' matches after receiving criticism from fans.

The Owls announced matchday prices for the first home game of the new League One season against Bradford City, which takes place next Thursday night, on Tuesday morning. With prices for adult non-members £34 on the Kop, £41 on the North Stand and £46 on the South Stand, some supporters were critical of the cost of attending the match for non-season ticket holders. Bradford City fans, who are being charged £34, also expressed their frustration.

But after the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Trust took the concerns to the club, stating that the £46 in particular was too high, it has been agreed that the pricing structure for future matches in this category will be 'reviewed.'

In a statement issued to The Star, the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Trust, said: "Following concerns raised by supporters regarding ticket prices for the Bradford City fixture, representatives of the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Trust met with the club earlier today to discuss those concerns directly. The trust made clear that the £46 match ticket price particularly, had generated significant concern amongst supporters and sought further clarification on both the pricing decision and the club's wider ticketing strategy. The club confirmed that this price applies to 250 of the 3,400 seats available for the fixture and has committed to reviewing this approach for future Category A matches.

"During the meeting, the club acknowledged that its communication around the pricing structure could have been clearer and provided additional context behind its approach for the 2026/27 season. This included a 10% reduction in season ticket prices, reductions across adult and many junior match ticket categories, a 20% reduction in membership prices, and additional match ticket discounts for members.

"We thank the club for engaging openly and constructively throughout today's discussions and for taking the time to listen to the concerns that supporters have raised. We also acknowledge the club's wider pricing strategy, which represents a reduction in cost for season ticket holders, members and the vast majority of match ticket purchasers compared to last season.

"As an independent supporters' organisation, our role is to represent the views of our members, raise concerns directly with the club where appropriate, and ensure those concerns are heard. We will continue to engage constructively with the club whilst always advocating for supporters and encouraging Hillsborough to remain as accessible as possible. "

Wednesday were taken over by Arise Capital Partners, led by David Storch, in May. Since taking over, they have started to make much-needed improvements to Hillsborough and the training ground. They have also pumped £6m into new hospitality facilities. Speaking earlier this summer, chief executive officer, David Bruce, said: "It is a summer of investment. We have committed around £6m to improve the stadium and the training ground, which is a significant amount in facilities that dearly need it. It's not going to be a lot of sexy stuff, but it's going to be stuff that helps foundationally to move this club in the right direction. As David (Storch) famously said, the guy who owned the club before said we'd be in the Premier League within two years - David said we'd have running water for you next season. It shows you where we have to go to as a football club, you need these foundational elements in place before we can build and grow. And we want to build and grow this great club."
