Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai clears up on-field exchange with Curtis Jones after Wrexham win

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has moved to quash any speculation surrounding a falling out with Curtis Jones -- while conceding that candid conversations are better suited to the locker room than the field of play.

The duo were spotted in a heated exchange following the victory against Wrexham in New York last week. The homegrown talent was visibly agitated at the final whistle and was observed exchanging words with both Szoboszlai and Kostas Tsimikas.

The dispute apparently stemmed from Tsimikas being handed the captain's armband after Szoboszlai was substituted in the second half, with footage of the exchange spreading rapidly across social media platforms, prompting the Hungarian international to address the matter publicly, via The Mirror.

Szoboszlai has sought to minimize the significance of the episode, yet made clear his ambition to step into a leadership capacity following Andy Robertson's departure -- which has left the vice-captaincy position vacant.

He said: "It was never a debate between us three. We just discussed something on the pitch. What (which) actually after you guys make it very big.

"But next time we will manage to do it in the changing room. But no, nobody was angry at no one. It's all cleared. We are cool, everybody. No, there hasn't been any conversation [about the vice captaincy]. Obviously we have Virgil [van Dijk] as the captain.

"We have Alisson [Becker]. We have Joe Gomez. So there was no conversation at all. Obviously, Ali is not here. Joe is injured. I was very proud moment to have it. And let's see. It's not my choice. It's not fixed. If you get offered the vice-captain in Liverpool FC, you're going to take it. It would be a proud moment for me. But I respect everybody."

Liverpool have insisted that confrontations of this nature are commonplace in a high-performance environment, and Szoboszlai and Jones have since been spotted sharing a laugh together during an early training session in Chicago.

Jones has less than a year left on his Anfield deal and Liverpool are understandably keen to avoid losing him on a free transfer. Inter Milan have made repeated attempts to secure the versatile Reds midfielder, but have seen three successive bids rejected.

The Premier League club are holding firm on their asking price of a minimum of £35 million ($47.2 million). The Reds were given a rude awakening on their US tour when they surrendered a lead to fall 4-2 to Leeds United, as Andoni Iraola continues to push for further reinforcements.
