'Proud' Brighton make Carl Rushworth admission in parting message

Carl Rushworth has completed his permanent move to Coventry City from Brighton

Brighton and Hove Albion admit that they would have liked to have kept Carl Rushworth for longer but say they respect the goalkeeper's decision to secure guaranteed senior top flight football at Coventry City.

The 25-year-old has finally completed his move from the Amex Stadium to the CBS Arena after a long and drawn out summer of negotiations between the two clubs.

Both parties agreed an undisclosed fee, thought to be an initial £22.5m rising to £30m, with the player signing what has been described as a "long-term" contract, the exact details of which have also not been disclosed.

Speaking about the departure, Seagulls' sporting director Mike Cave said: "Carl had an excellent 2025/26 season and both he and Coventry were keen to make the move permanent.

"While we would have liked to keep Carl with the Club for longer, we respect his decision to secure regular first-team football in the Premier League with Coventry.

"We're extremely proud of the development and progress Carl has made during his time at the club. We wish him the best of luck for the future."
