Kaizer Chiefs news: Goal-scoring winger says goodbye

The Democratic Republic of Congo international leaves Kaizer Chiefs after winning the Nedbank Cup. He scored crucial goals and helped the club qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup in back-to-back seasons.

Lilepo confirmed his departure from Amakhosi on social media. He ends an impressive 18-month spell at Naturena. The winger announced the news in a heartfelt farewell message, thanking everyone who played a role during his time at the club.

GLODY LILEPO'S EMOTIONAL FAREWELL

He joined Kaizer Chiefs from French club Valenciennes FC in January 2025 after being identified by former head coach Nasreddine Nabi. The club reportedly paid around R9.6 million for his services. It proved to be money well spent as Lilepo quickly became one of Amakhosi's biggest attacking weapons.

In his farewell message, Lilepo thanked Dr Kaizer Motaung, Kaizer Motaung Jr., Bobby Motaung, the coaching staff and every employee at Kaizer Chiefs.

"Khosi Nation, it is with emotion that my journey with you comes to an end. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone at Kaizer Chiefs."

The winger also reflected on the success he enjoyed alongside his teammates.

"Together, we were able to bring a trophy back to this great club after ten years and secure qualification for the CAF Confederation in two consecutive seasons. I will always cherish the memories we created together. I know this club deserves more, and I have no doubt that greater days lie ahead."

Lilepo reserved special praise for the Kaizer Chiefs supporters.

"To the supporters, THANK YOU for your passion, support, positivity and kindness. Your love for this club is truly special. I hope I was able to bring you some moments of joy, even though we also experienced some difficult times together."

KAIZER CHIEFS LOSE A PROVEN MATCH-WINNER

Lilepo made an immediate impact after arriving midway through the 2024/25 season. The lanky star finished as Kaizer Chiefs' leading scorer in the Betway Premiership with six goals and one assist in just 15 league appearances. He also scored memorable goals against Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC.

He played a key role as Kaizer Chiefs lifted the Nedbank Cup, ending the club's 10-year wait for major silverware. During the 2025/26 campaign, he added another nine goals and four assists across all competitions.

Overall, Lilepo leaves Kaizer Chiefs with 15 goals and five assists. More importantly, he helped restore belief at the club and will be remembered as one of Amakhosi's most influential signings in recent years.
