March says 'I thought I would get a contract' on Albion departure

Solly March is training at Albion's facilities as he targets a return to the Premier League.

But he has admitted he thought he would be offered a new contract at the club.

March was let go at the end of last term after reaching 300 appearances for the Seagulls.

He has been working hard with fitness experts in Qatar and Portugal and, while there have been offers, is ready to take his time for the right next move.

March said: "There have been a few things, of course.

"There always is, like stuff abroad which right now is probably not for me.

"I still want to play in the Premier League. I definitely think I can do that so maybe I've got to be patient. I don't know.

"But it's difficult. You get itchy feet. You're at home alone, training on your own. It's a strange, weird one."

March outlined what he can offer to a potential Prem employer as he spoke on talkSPORT.

He said: "I think I can play many positions.

"I think I've got quality that maybe still a lot of teams in the Premier League don't have.

"And I think the experience helps. Helping teams when you're older, you've played 300 games.

"You know what it's like and you can help young players coming up and advise them.

"I still think I've got the quality. I still think pre-season is big for me, the way I've trained.

"I'm feeling good now. The best I have in two years.

"I'm just waiting for the right chance and I think patience is the key."

March had hoped to secure a new deal after recovering from knee surgery.

He said: "It was a difficult one. The club sort of ummed and aahed and I thought I was going to get a contract, if I'm honest, but that didn't happen.

"They are going in a different direction now. I think you can see that.

"I think they want to have young players that are going to be there for many years.

"It is what it is but I'm ready to go. I'm going to train at the club now and use the pitches so they are being good to me.

"It has helped me out a lot."
