Real Madrid make final Vinicius Jr decision as Arsenal put on transfer red alert

Vinicius Jr has just one year left on his deal at Real Madrid and Arsenal hope to tempt the forward to join them at the Emirates Stadium this summer

Real Madrid have tabled a final take it or leave it contract offer to Vinicius Junior as he continues to attract interest from Arsenal. The Gunners have enquired about the Brazil international, as boss Mikel Arteta wants to sign proven talent this summer.

Vinicius fits the bill, winning 14 trophies and scoring 128 goals in 375 matches for the Spanish giants, but he only has one year remaining on his current deal. Real have tried to renew Vinicius' deal and opened further talks with him earlier this week, but with no progress made, they have now hit their star man with an ultimatum.

According to Spanish publication Marca, the La Liga giants have informed the 26-year-old's camp that the latest contract offer they submitted is final and there will be no further increase nor another round of negotiations. If Vinicius accepts, his deal will be renewed, however, if he rejects the offer Real will open the door to a sale this summer to prevent the Brazilian from entering his final year of contract year and leaving for free later, according to Marca.

The Gunners have already bolstered their attacking options this summer with the £34million signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge earlier this month. Arteta admitted he will 'require a better squad and better individuals' for the forthcoming season in an interview with the club's inhouse media channels earlier this week.

He said: "This has to be the start and this has to be the standard. Excellence has to be our standard and this has to drive us to attack the future.

"The way we behave daily with more and more determination and ambition because we've shown that we've got it. Now we have to show that we belong to this level and we want to increase and take this football club to a different dimension."

He added: "We all know about the context of this transfer window. From ownership to the board, the sporting director and myself, we know that we want to take this club to a different level.

"That is going to require a better squad, better individuals. We have identified where we have opportunities to grow and to improve and to evolve our game and what is going to be needed to achieve that. Hopefully very soon we can start to put things in a very concrete way."

While Josh Kroenke declared Arsenal won't be standing still this summer after watching his side lift the Premier League title last season. Speaking to NBC, he said: "The business never stops. Right now there are already other teams who are trying to strengthen and come at us for next season.

"We need to be aware of that. We've already had a few different conversations about different areas where we think we can improve on and off the pitch.

"I am looking forward to getting that going this summer but it's going to be an interesting one because of the World Cup but fortunately everyone is coming to the United States so I don't have to travel."
