Leeds advantage for Premier League opener: 'Honestly, I don't think we are'

Nottingham Forest are undercooked so far this summer says the new manager

New Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner has admitted his squad may not be in the best shape for their Premier League season opener against Leeds United.

Glasner has replaced Vitor Pereira at the City Ground and is currently in the process of reshaping the squad to his vision and style of play as they look to improve on last season's struggles when they had to fight off relegation.

The former Crystal Palace manager will be under pressure early on to get Forest off to a good start, but he's already sent something of a warning, knowing his team face a difficult opening few weeks to the new campaign.

After hosting Leeds on the opening weekend, Forest face Liverpool, big-spending Tottenham Hotspur and then Aston Villa in a very tough opening four games. Looking ahead to the Leeds game on Saturday August 22, Glasner said; "Honestly, I don't think we are in our top shape against Leeds, but over the weeks, when we will work on a daily basis when we will improving during the season. I really believe that we can play a fantastic season."

The new boss is confident he can turn the club's fortunes around, but it will take time. Leeds will be sniffing blood if that is the case as they look to get off to a fast start, with the Whites playing Forest, Brentford, Brighton and then Newcastle first up.

The Magpies have their own issues having seen manager Eddie Howe depart after a difficult summer so far which has already seen star names leave the club for Premier League rivals.
