Scalvini sale possible as Atalanta entertain Newcastle United interest

As reported by Tutto Atalanta, La Dea could consider the sale of Giorgio Scalvini, who is attracting interesting from Newcastle United.

Atalanta are still keen on a second major player sale to generate funds ahead of Maurizio Sarri's first season. With Marco Palestra alsoready moved on to Chelsea, the club were hoping Ederson's exit would sort out their needs, only for his move to Man United collapse after a medical flag-up.

This brings Scalvini into the picture. The Bergamaschi are not inclined to sell the 22-year-old centre-back, but if an offer too good to be refused were to surface, which is deemed to be in the region of €45 million as things stand, then they would be open to selling him. Newcastle United are currently leading the interest in him from the Premier League.

Valued by Transfermarkt at €38 million, Scalvini has two more years remaining on his Atalanta contract, which fetches him an annual gross salary of €2.78 million.

A sale would be understandable

It's hard to argue against selling Scalvini if a club were to offer around €45 million for him. Injuries have plagued the young defender badly in recent years, and even apart from his two major lay-offs -- an ACL tear in 2024 and a shoulder injury not long after that -- minor niggles continue to pop up every now and then.

Despite that, Scalvini remains a promising young defender and made 30 appearances for Atalanta last season. Absolutely, he would do a job for Sarri at the back. Then again, Atalanta have to face the reality that €45 million may be as high his transfer value ever goes, and if that's the case, it is likely he ends up being their second major sale this summer.
