To hear Chelsea identified him and made approaches, only for him to reject the move outright, is hard to dress up as anything else.

What hurts most is the reason. If a player wants a "different sporting project", supporters will naturally ask what that says about Chelsea's current standing. This club should be one of the clearest destinations in Europe. Instead, it feels like top-level targets still need convincing that the direction is stable enough, competitive enough and prestigious enough right now.
